Oliveros Oscuro

A little history:

Habana Cuba Cigar Company (Oliveros) was founded over 7 years ago by Rafael Nodal, Alina Nodal, and Hank Bischoff.  Since then, the company has been doing very well and has opened a new, larger facility in the Dominican Republic.  In addition to this facility, they also opened the doors to their Miami Lakes warehouse facility with a refrigerated humidor and space that can hold over 1 million cigars.

This cigar is from the King Havano line which is produced in Nicaragua.

Filler: Nicaraguan (Ligero from Esteli, Condega, and Jalapa)
Shape: Corona Gorda (Squire)

Draw: Good (Slight resistance)
Burn: Great (Ash not as solid as I like, but it wasn’t bad)
Construction: Good

The first 1/3 of this cigar was very rich and earthy.

The second 1/3 offered a slight sweetness, thick cocoa, and some spice.

The last 1/3 was spicy and a little nutty, with a hint of charred wood.

Overall, this is a very tasty cigar.  It’s pretty much medium-bodied throughout offering some really nice rich flavors.  If you haven’t tried one, I think you will enjoy smoking one of these.

La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet

La Flor Dominicana is one of my personal favorite cigars.  I regularly buy boxes of the LFD ligero oscuro L300, Habano Perfectos, and I just was introduced to the LFD Cameroon Cabinets a couple months.

Recently, I split a cabinet of these fine cigars.  The box comes in fifty.  I generally don’t buy this big of boxes, but lately this has been my go to cigar.  I prefer londsdales, coronas, corona gordas, and lanceros.  So when I saw this came in a londsdale, I was extremely happy.  I picked up a few at Corona Cigars and really like them and then ordered them from the store I work at because we didn’t have an open-box of them.

Here is the basic information about the Cameroon Cabinets.  The Cameroon Cabinets first came out in the early 2000s, but was stopped until 2007.  I spoke to Tony Gomez (Litto Gomez’s son) and he told me that they relented and let the Cameroon wrapper age. Tony is one of the best reps I have met at the cigar store I work at in Sarasota, Florida. He has great knowledge and any questions I just call him.  Cameroon wrappers are very expensive and hard to roll.  The wrapper is very fragile.  This has been a major issue with putting them in the humidor.  I wish they went in cellophane.

Prelight: Spicy aromas, effortless draw

These cigars are not the prettiest of cigars on the market, but are pretty consistent with burn and draw.

The first 1/3:  The cigar had hints of sweetness and mild spice.  The cigar gave me a slight nicotine buzz.  The ash was not as white as it is usually, but it is burning perfect.  The ash is flaky, but it is not stopping my enjoyment.

The second third: The cigar continues to be sweet, but the spice kicks in more through the nose.  The cigar continues to be good.  It is a little one dimensional, but it is a good one dimensional.  I like when cigars change flavors, but I was not bored with the spicy sweetness.

The final third: I recognized a slight dark chocolate sweetness.  It was enjoyable.  I had to fix it once at the end.  This is one of those cigars I smoke to the nub.  I enjoy the cigar immensely. I will be buying another cabinet once this one is gone.  I payed 6 dollars a stick, but they usually retail at more 8-9.  If anyone likes Fuente Hemingways, this blows it away.  This is a much better Cameroon cigar.  If anyone is ever in Sarasota, Florida come and visit me at Mardo cigars 4801 S. tamiami trail #3 Sarasota, Florida 34231 941-706-3325.  We have a nice walk in humidor and over seven hundred open boxes.
